The physical factors existing and the conditions appertaining to the Isthmus of Panama appear in the many published Official Reports of the various Isthmian Commissions appointed by the United States; in the debates of Congress: in the studies of the Comité Technique of the old and new Panama Companies: in the numerous scientific articles which have been contributed to the Engineering Press, notably those by Gen. H. L. Abbot. By the late George Morrison. By members of the existing Commission, and by the Minister to Panama.
In view of the copious available authoritative literature. It is deemed un necessary to epitomize or recapitulate here those elements or to present. Except incidentally, the results of the most recent surveys, borings, and explorations, on which are based serious commitments looking toward a sea-level Canal with Tunnel Diversions of the Chagres River.
