“What’s in a Name?” presents a history and etymology of graffiti in the late 20th century from a cause-and-effect standpoint, comparing what was motivating and influencing the artistic subculture, using historical case studies from subcultural eye witnesses and popular sources to identify what had changed in society at that period to assist the physical creation and the message behind art as graffiti. It explores ‘What’s in a Name?’ in regard to form, format and artistic application to better communicate, educate and protect the cultural integrity at the heart of a movement which reconnected and inspired ordinary people to create extraordinary art in their own name.
