The gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar is one of the most important forest and shade tree pest in the United States. Since its introduction into New England over 100 years ago, it has defoliated over 50 million acres of woodlands in the northeastern states and imperils other regions as it continues to spread. Unlike many forest pests, the gypsy moth has great impact in suburban and residential areas, where effective, economical, environmentally compatible and publicly - acceptable methods of control are needed.
