Description

THIS BIOGRAPHY CHRONICLES the life of David Sullivan, a shepherd, agricultural consultant, lay pastor, and storyteller, whose amusing anecdotes from his adventures in sheep farming have entertained listeners at his many public speaking engagements. Following many requests, his wife, Eileen, documented these tales so they could be shared with a wider audience.

Originally a city resident from Aldershot, David’s fascination with farming began in his teenage years, leading to a position at a remote farm on Exmoor, where he honed his skills. This journey took him through several farming roles in Kent and Sussex until 1965 when Dave and Eileen relocated to Hurstbourne Tarrant, near Andover in Hampshire. There, he worked for two different farmers before establishing his own farming venture at the age of 45. Introducing the innovative concept of Sheep Share Farming, Dave managed around 3,000 sheep, with landowners providing grazing land while he contributed his labour and expertise.

In Hampshire, Dave and Eileen raised their two sons and a diverse collection of animals, making it their permanent home. Even in retirement, Dave remained responsible for 350 ewes, all while juggling roles as a School Governor, Parish Council Chairman, Delegate to the British Wool Marketing Board, and Hampshire Sheep Group Chairman. However, his true passion lay in serving as a lay pastor at the local Gospel Hall in a neighbouring village, where he and Eileen ran a lively Children’s Club and Bible Class for many years.

In addition, Dave mentored numerous aspiring farming students, offering valuable help and guidance and always enjoying their visits.

Those interested in farming, rural life, and countryside living will find Eileen's portrayal of his often hilarious experiences both inspiring and delightful.
