Description
Excerpt from The Origin of Ideas, Vol. 1
The Nnovo Sagg''io alone is enough to confirm the testimony just recorded. This work shows that Rosmini was not only a man of extraordinary mental capacity, but also that, whilst yet young, he had amassed a more vast and accurate know ledge of various philosophic systems, ancient, mediaeval and modern, than some of the most distinguished thinkers could be justly credited with, even after a long life of extensive reading and the closest application. It is almost needless to add that Rosmini went on continually increasing his materials; and it may well be claimed that a philosophical erudition as extensive, as deep, and as precise, as is contained in his pub lished works, would be sought for m vain m any other writer. We may then conclude that both nature and art combined to make him almost as perfect a pattern for students of philosophy as it is possible to set before them.
