Description
No. 75 New Zealand Squadron was the first Commonwealth squadron to be formed in the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War and the only New Zealand heavy bomber squadron in the RAF.
The ‘New Zealand Bomber Squadron’ became famous for its many accomplishments – and a source of great national pride – in particular, the Victoria Cross earned by Sergeant ‘Jimmy’ Ward one memorable night in July 1941.
The story of how a New Zealand bomber squadron came about in the first place has never before been properly told, the details overshadowed by subsequent momentous events and often brushed over in official accounts. Chris Newey’s book tells that story and aims to be a fitting tribute to that brave band of Kiwis and their allies.
