As the proof has been offered with comparative frequency of late 1 showing that the Hebraists, 2 that is, the Hebrew speaking J ews of Palestine, who formed a class distinct from the Hellenists, did not in reality Speak Hebrew but Aramaic, it seems super?uous to raise a fresh discussion on all the details of this question. Yet, while reference is made to my Grammatik des jiid.-pal. Aramaisch for information on all the Aramaic expressions that occur in the New Testament and J osephus, the most important sources of evi dence now involved must here be shortly summarised.
