Description
Excerpt from The History of Materialism, Vol. 3 of 3: And Criticism of Its Present Importance
The condensation hypothesis has gaimd an important support of late through spectrum analysis, which shows us that we find the some materials of which our earth consists in the whole solar system, and partly also in the stellar world. To the same method of inquiry we are indebted for the view that the nebulw which appear scattered through the heavens by no means all consist, as might have been supposed earlier, of distant clusters of stars, but that a considerable number of them are really nebular masses, which may therefore present to us a picture of the earlier condition of our solar system.
