Description
My great grandfather, Michael McKeogh, passed away in 1965 in his hospital bed. His manuscripts, which are compiled in this book, disappeared from his side on the night of death. Forty years later his grandson, Kevin Keogh, was researching family history on the internet when he found a link about Sgt-Major Michael McKeogh on the UCD archive website. The ghost of Roger Casement that had followed my great grandfather for most of his adult life had risen again. The manuscripts had been deposited in the UCD archives in 1987 amongst the papers of a Father Twomey and were then separated into their own box. Three generations on and the contents of the manuscripts were as fresh and as insightful as the day they were written. I myself was immersed in the intrigue of what this account of the past had to offer.
My granddad (Michael) Kevin Keogh had always been at this father’s side, and had listened and watched as his father wrote his papers and tried to have them published. Attempts to have the papers made into a book were always met with censorship and McKeogh didn’t want any part of history to be covered up. And so in his father’s memory, Kevin Keogh dedicated this book to the ghost of Roger Casement.
