Description
Excerpt from Diabetic Manual: For the Mutual Use of Doctor and Patient
For one diabetic patient who knows too much about his disease there are unquestionably ninety-nine who know too little. That is the reason for this little book, in which I have tried to give in schematic form the modern conception of diabetes and its treatment. The presentation is radically elementary, in the hope that a book of this nature, written in the light of recent discoveries in laboratory and clinic, will be a help to the general practitioner and useful as a text - book for his patients, thereby securing their intelligent cooperation, and thus enabling him to raise the standard of diabetic treatment. These pages emphatically cannot take the place of a competent physician, but I trust that they will supply sound instruction in combating a disease which is statistically four times as prevalent in Boston today as in 1890, and twice as prevalent in the registration area of the United States as in 1900.
