The State of Texas is bounded on the north by New Mexico, Kansas, and Red River, which separates it from the Indian Territory; on the east, by the States of Arkansas and Louisiana; on the south, by the Gulf of Mexico; on the west, by the Rio Grande, which separates it from the Mexican States, and the Territory of New Mexico.
