Description
Although the number of Orthodox Western Rite parishes appear to be growing, particularly in North America and indeed the interest in returning to the Church is becoming more widespread, the Church in the world remains dominated by those who celebrate the Eastern Rite and observe its associated traditions, often linked to the Greek or Russian parts of the Church.
At times, owing to a lack of available clergy, it may be necessary for small parishes or even house groups to come together on Sundays for a service when there is not a celebrant (Priest) available.
In the Eastern Rite, this is well-established and is referred to as the typika (Gr. τυπικα), but in Western Use - as are the Offices in general - is not something typically done outside of monastic communities.
This text provides a form for such a service based on the Liturgy of Saint John the Divine (Stowe Missal) and the Sarum Use of the Roman Rite.
n.B. This text should serve as a template, used in part or whole with the blessing of the Diocesan Bishop.
