Description
“Mary kept in mind all these things, and pondered them in her heart.” Lk 2:19
The Florilegium of the Heart is a new rosary devotion to Mary’s pondering heart. It originates in the call of Vatican II to develop Catholic devotions that both come from the Sacred Liturgy and lead back to it. The Rosary originated in the Middle Ages in just such a desire of the laity to imitate the chanting in the churches of the Liturgy of the Hours. The Christian faithful began to pray an Ave for each of the 150 psalms of the Psalter, the heart of the Church’s Divine Office. They called it Mary's Psalter. The Hail Mary consisted at the time only of the two verses from Luke. To these scriptural verses the devotion of the faithful added praises or petitions of Mary and Jesus, one for each bead of the rosaries with which they kept count, and in time these developed into the Mysteries of the Rosary. Directions are also given for praying the Florilegium in common antiphonally with a leading lector.
Inspired anew by the renewed Liturgy of the Hours comes this new Florilegium rosary—or rather, both new and old—out of the treasure of Mary’s pondering heart, that blessed heart predestined to keep and contemplate the mystery of Christ as its first and perpetual witness. Three florilegia gather from the Liturgy its most moving scriptural verses and arrange them for meditation on the beads of the rosary, in a weekly cycle of seven Mysteries of the Lord and an annual cycle of liturgical seasons Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious. This compact paperback edition also includes a Holy Hour of the Hearts for adoration, with meditations for feast days as well as each day of the Florilegium.
